Th "Tribute to Black Women Community aders" i a
three-year-?ld program o� the National Coun il of Negro
Women designed to recognize and pay tribute to the historical
legacy of Black women as community leaders. Six national
leaders were lected by the NCNW and program sponsor, the
uaker Oats Company were honored in Washington D.C. The

tance of academic achievement, family communicatIons and

Mamie Till-Mobley, a 72-year-old retired Chicago educator
who founded th� Emm tt Till Foundation to assist college
bou�d tudents m memory of her slain son; Paula S. Taylor,
preslden� of th Jefli rs�E Manor Community D velopment
Co�poratlo�, community-based, nonprofit organization in
�htladelphla th t financing for the purch of hous­
mg;
Mil.dred Reese, a retired ew Orleans school principal who
organized t� "Inter n rational Forum" to bring together the
commu�lty �de and youth to xchange id and provide
supportive 1 tanee; and Joann ichols Watson the execu-
tive director of the troit f AACP who works with battered
women and laid off auto workers.
