Let me be very cl ar. There is
something wrong with the wel
fare system as we h ve rome to
know it in America. Whose fami

three generations on welfare.
And contrary to some beliefs, be-

THE FUTURE OF the
NAACP will be determined by
the role of the old guard. If they
continue to travel along the road
of self-destruction th NAA P
will die a slow and non-produc
tive death. The new and young
progressive forces insid th
NAACP must decide whether
they will be lead by th non-pro
ductive forces ofth old guard or
move forward into the 21st cen
tury with a program for elf-de
termination
We come today to join h
NAACP to how upport for th
leadership of Chairman ibson,
Dr. Chavi , Rev. Anthony and
Joann Watson in their efforts to
build the new NAACP for self
determination
Finally, we encourage the old
guard to ceas their n gativity
and join the mov ment for s If
determination or at 1 t move
out the way.

NAACP for the last twenty years
has played an insufficient role in
the day to day struggles of Afri
kan people in this country.
The old guard has survived on
the generous donations of white
corporate America and their
Jewish benefactors. The old
NAACP leadership did not and
has not put forth a program for
the political and economic em
powerment of the Afrikan com
munity.
Dr. Chavis has brought new
blood and fresh I dership to the
association and obviously has
sparked the revitalization of the
old negro elite. The vision of a
new NAACP marching into the
21st century on time,on task and
on a mission is beginning to fade
with the resurrection of the same
old tired agenda.
Dr. Chavis' effort to reach out
to all segments of the Afrikan
community should b com
