One thing Heath agrees with
Mc Clary is that an incinerator
would be "detrimental to the
health of Highland Park."
In discussing his qualifica
tions, Heath noted his educa
tional background as a graduate
from Highland Park Community
College (HPCC), a Bachelor of
Science at Wayn State Univer
sity, a masters at the University
of Michigan and a doctorate from
Wayne State in guidance and
counseling.
He noted his 8 years on the
City Council and his 8-9 years as
President ofHPCC.
Both offices, he said, gave him
a knowledge of government op
erations and "a direct path to
Lansing and Washington,"
which allowed him to "get into
doors" as a councilman,
In his career, he stated he also
erved as P ident of th High
land Park Federation of Teach
ers, as a member of the Board of
Directors for the Michigan Com
mission of Community Colleges
Association and a delegate to the
National League of Cities.
Heath said he also worked
with Detroit Mayor Denis
Archer in campaigns for a num
ber of other candidates and that
he "has his ear."
Hea th adds. he 'gained. a
knowledge of people and has "a
history of unconditional regard
for individuals. He says he is
knovn for being "dedicated and
a person of integrity. "
JAMES
CRAWFORD
states the main issue is getting
more public services.
Crawford says there is only
one public health officer in the
city to deal with subst ndard
housing and slum landlords.
There are only two animal
wardens to d I with packs of
dogs threatening people in th
neighborhood, he adds.
"When you talk to people, you
find .they want basic things," he
said.
When asked how he could add
to services, when the ci y is in
financial difficulty, Crawford
said he would look into the
budget and try to wh the
money' is going. H add that
the city should look into state
and county funds. "
"I'h re should be someon
who knows how to tap th
money," he said.
