And the Council did - th re
was no resolution to take action
on the veto. However, there is
ome speculation that if it came
to a vote, there would not be
enough votes to override it. To
override such a veto, four-out-of
five city council members would
have to vote against the veto.
Council President Dwight
Down voted against c:ind
ing the resolution in th fi t
place. Councilman Frank Ross,
who was absent for the vote to
rescind, strongly expressed his
disapproval of it. During a public
s ion of the July 5 meeting,
when an officer of the Massachu
setts Block Club called for "more
visible police officers," to deter
crime on his block, Ross said that
if a new municipal complex was
built, the police headquarters .
would be near his street.
The block club official then

Currency devaluation
rock French spearing Mrica
NIAMEY, NIGER - Millions of people in French-speaking
Africa hav been plunged deeper into poverty as a result of
their countries being forced by France and the Western domi
nated International Monetary Fund to devalue their joint
currency. The January devaluation had the effect of cutting the
value of the currency in half and nearly tripling the 008t of
imported goods.
The countri in question are mostly former French colonies
which operated a joint currency under the African Financial
Community. Fran supported thejoint currency for decades
but last y r d id it could no longer afford to do so.
The devaluation is typical of the type of "shock therapy"

It would be more

And that's not just a matter
of opinion. It's a matter of fact. Rush Limbaugh' groundless a sertions on i ue
