Righ Movement no longer ex
i t. We face an unprecedented
crisis of poverty, violence, job
I and social despair, and
th old approach are no 10Dr
sufficient or viable.
We must struggle to tra
form our situation, to extend the
principl of political democracy
to economic and social relations,
to create the foundations of
genuine opportunity for our peo
ple. We need a bold D W leader
ship with a democratic vi ion of
Black empowerment and equal
ity. As Frederick Douglass re
minded us more that a century
ago: "Without struggle, there
can be no progress."
