Cosby blames
lack-Jewish
, tensions on pork
ATLANTA (AP) - Entertainer
Bill Cosby used a dinner honor
ing a close friend to make a state
ment about strained relations
between Blacks and Jews. The
problem is pork, h said.
Cosby was master of ceremo
nies May 10 at a Jewish National
Fund dinner honoring Spelman
College President Johnetta B.
Cole.
In his opening remarks, head
mitted that tension exi ts be
tween Blacks and Jews. But he
100 ened up the audience, which
included members of both
groups, by saying:
"It all com s down to my own
f ling that Jewish people are
j lous of Black people because
w an eat pork. Either we've got
to stop iling pork, or they've got
to st rt."
o BY CHA TI ED the
media for fanning the embers of
Black-Jewish resentment.
"The problem is we don't hear
ch other," he said. "The prob
lem is w don't talk to each other.
Th 'important thing is the love
we really have for each other but
BILL COSBY
haven't bothered to find."
Ms. Cole said Cosby continues
to grace her with "precious gifts"
similar to the 20 million he and
his 'wife, Camille, donated to
Spelman to honor her inaugura-
tion. . .
"He continu to give us his
time, his emotional support and
his wise counsel," she said.
