Unit d Church r aehes goal
The Capital Funds Campaign of the First Congregational
United Church of Christ of Benton Harbor has received pledges
or donations of 264,205, 15 percent above the basic goal of
230,000 by the 165 member church.
The campaign entitled "Window to the Future" was d igned
to refurbish and tore the church' historic buildings. The
campaign is one of the major reinv tments in downtown
�ent.on Harbor unde�ken by a �on-governmental organiza­
tion In recent years. First Church 18 the oldest congregation in
the City of Benton Harbor.
The church building also erv as the headquarters for the
Twin Citi Area Literacy Council, Citizens Mediation Service
Community School of the Arts, and the United Church Bento�
Harbor Neighborhood Projects.
"The congregation wants to thank many supporters from the
community and alumni and former members of First Church
in .helping us to make the undertaking a wonderful success "
said Rev. Richard H. Taylor, church Pastor. "We intend to sta'y
in Benton Harbor, continuing a ministry of good news in the
name of Jesus Christ."
Campaign Chairperson was Lester Page, Sr. Elisha Gray II
and Leon Gideon erved Honorary Co-chaira.

Dudley named
Conununity Affairs Officer-
Old Kent Bank, Southwest has named Sandra A. Dudley as
Community Affairs Officer. ,
Dudley joined Old Kent, Grand Rapids in 1990 as an Assis­
tant, Branch Manager. She transferred to Old Kent Bank,
Southwest in 1991 to assume the position of Credit Analyst in
the Credit Department. .
. Sandra holds a RB.A. degree from Andrews University and
IS a recent graduate of Lake Michigan College Community
Leadership Academy. "
She is a long time resident of Benton Harbor and is very
active in several community organizations, including Neigh­
borhood Information & Sharing Exchange (NISE), Benton
�rbor Citizens Council-Enterprise Zone Board, Communities
First Workforce,Development Group, National Association for
the Advance of Colored People (NAACP), and is a member of
Union Memorial AME Church.
Old Kent Bank, Southwest is an affiliate of Old 'Kent Finan­
cial Corporation whose assets total over $10 billion. Today
there are 16 Old Kent affiliate banks, with over 200 offices
throughout Michigan and Illinois.
Grants available to single
parents/honnennakers
Single Parents, homemakers, displaced hom makers, or
persons majoring in career areas that are non-tri ditional for
their gender may be eligible for assistance with tuition, fees,
tools, or bookstore materials needed for classes at Lake Michi­
gan College.
Federally funded under the Perkins. Act, this assistance
could be used to supplement a Pell Grant. Funds are limited.
Students need to apply now for fall semester which begins .
August 29.

LMC offers placement tests
Th first tep toward achieving your ca r goal is to take a
placement test. Lake Michigan College has scheduled testing
in ar of reading, math, and writing for Jun 1,8 9 a.m. and
6 p.m.; June 20,.flt 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., and Jun 22, at 9 a.m.
nd 6 p.m.
Placem nt tests at the Main Campus are held in the Tele­
conference Room 3. No appointment is necessary. Test takers
should arrive 10-15 minutes before the sled t t time to
register. Students should bring two #2 pencils and a ball point
pen, and .should know their Social Security number. The test
takes approximately two hours.
