HIGHLAND PARK - By a
three to two margin, the High­
land Park City Council voted
April 18 to transfer land at the
site of the recently demolished
Howard Johnson and Monterey
Motel to build a new city muniei- .
pal complex.
This was part of a plan by
Highland Park Mayor Linsey
Porter. Councilwoman Greta
Johnson, who recently was vig­
orously opp ed to the mo�,
made the resolution, With Coun­
cilman Frank Ross seconding it.
Johnson said that she be­
lieved as a city council member
that he had an obligation to
move city employees from a
"hazardous and unhealthy con­
dition" in the old city buildings
to a "clean and healthy work en­
vironment. "
In a letter she read before city
council and the general public
Johnson said that a "revelation"
from GOO inspired her to leave
her "personal and opinionated
thought " and to support the
measw .
SHE SAID· THE divine vi­
sion told her, "The city can have
a rebirth if I let people invest in
the city. The city will never be

place most private insurance,
Medicare and Medicaid.

Phy icians for a National
Health Care Program (PNHP)
will be picketing in front of the
Blue'CrosslBlue Shield Building
at 500 E. Lafayette in support of
the single payer plan.

the ingle payer plan would be
administered by the ta un­
der tandards by a biparti­
san National Health Security
Board.
There wou ld be no copay­
ment or d ductible and no
other out-of-pocket expe for
comprehensive coverage.
The system would be fi­
nanced through a combination
of payroll tax , income tax on
higher income groupe, income­
adjusted premiums and the clos­
ing of tax loophole, Conyers
office said.
