Chris Webber, star rookie forward forth Golden State Warriors,
is not only exemplary in his performance on tb court, but has taken
the lead where contract negotiations are concerned by hiring Bill
Strickland, a Black attorney, to procure a I5-year, 75 million deal
on his behalf.
The socially-conscious rookie was damant about ethnic repre
entation, according to a re rt in the Chicago Citizen by Barry
Cooper.
Webber demanded of his paren that he "wanted somebody
Black. " According to Webber, "We (Blacks) are under-represented
in that area. There should be more Black agents."
Although about 85 percent of the NBA's players are Black, most
are represented by white agents.

NEW YORK - An independent
investigation, conducted over
five y .. "IS by an attorney in New
York, shows that convicted killer
James Earl Ray did not assassi
nate the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. The investigation also
poin to evidence of a conspir- .
aey in the killing of the slain civil
rights leader.
Attorney and consultant Jack
E. Robinson first conceived of
th idea while watching the 25th
Anniversary of J.F.K on TV and
said to himself, "Why don't we
h r this about King?"
"After the House Select Com
mittee on Assassinations re
I its findings in 1978, the
case appeared to be closed. But
in tb late 1980 , after reviewing
the committee's findings and
talking to some of the witnesses,
I decided to investigate the case
myself," Robinson said. "What I
found was very disturbing. The
House investigation was sloppy
and incomplete, and its findings
misleading. James Earl Ray, in
my view, is innocent." .
The official case, endorsed by
the House Select Committee on
t\.82::J85iSl·, nations (HSCA) in 1978,
is that Ray, a small-time petty
thiet: killed Dr. King with one
shot from a high-pow red rifle
fired from the bathroom of a
boarding house overlooking-the
balcony and room of the Lor
raine Motel in emphis where
King was staying. King ex
ited his room at 6 :00 p.m. on
April 4, 1968, and pped onto
the balcony, h was hot.
RAY THEREAFTER fled to
CanadaandthenLondon,wh re
he was arrested and extradited
back__!o Memphis. H pleaded
y
guilty and received a 99-year
nt nce. Today he is 65 years
'Old and is being held in grega
tion at the Riverben maximum
ecurity facility in Nashville.
Although HSCA claims that
th fatal hot came from th
bathroom in th boarding house,
a computer simulation con
ducted by Robinson of th fatal
bullet's trajectory sho that it
is equally likely that th shot
was fired from th bush out-
id be!IDYth window. "If it can-

"We want to know whether
