is in the process of accepting applications for testing for the
position of police officers, announced Deputy Police Chief Ron
Singleton. .
Singleton said applicants must apply in person at the Benton
Harbor Police Department, no later than 5 p.m., Friday, Octo-

The test is to be taken at the Benton Harbor Public Library,
Saturday, October 23, at 9 a.m. To take the test, applicants
must show a valid drivers license, prior to testing, Singleton
said.
Singleton said a study guide for the exam will be available
through the police department. Applicants are as ed to pay a
5 deposit for the guide, which will bereturned if study is
returned in good condition,
Selection process for Benton Harbor Police officers includes:
Have to submit a completed application.
Pass an entry level examination, where the applicant must
meet the minimum standards as established by the Michigan
Law Enforcement Officers Training Council.
, Submit a completed personal history statement.
Pass a structured oral interview board.
Undergo a thorough background investigation.
Interview with the Chief of Police.
Pass any required physical, psychological and drug screen-
ing.
Become certified by the Michigan Law Enforcement Offi­
cers Training Council, (MLEaI'C).
Successfully oomplete Field Training/Field Performance
Evaluation Program.
Successfully oomplete a one (1) year probationary period.

The September 27, Benton Harbor City Commission meeting
was going smoo hly, after approving the previous minutes and
accounts payable listing, therewere no agenda items.
Mayor Emma Hull announced that there would be eommis­
sion comments, only th minutes per oommissioner. This was
th firs time in over a month to have commission comments
without adjourning fter committee reports.
Commi ioner George Wysinger took the opportunity and
placed a motion on the floor to relieve City Attorney Tat Parish
from all of his duti with the City of Benton Harbor. But the
motion died for lack of upport.
