Tough. Fair. Determined. Informed.
Sharon McPhail displays the attributes neces­
sary to run the city of Detroit.
But the primary element for su , the
basic building block for any administration is
attitude and in that category, McPhail wins
running away over her opponent.
Unlike her opponent, who would appease
and plead, McPhail demonstrates the spunk
and courage to do what she's got to do for those
who depend on her.
When the students at Olivet were protest­
ingracist activity of skinheads on camp , her
opponent, ho was on the Olivet board, publi­
cally kept quiet. He left the kids out there to
fend for themselves, while he was working
"behind cl ed doors. "
Detroit needs a mayor who's up front, out­
spoken and vi ible.
Then there is the qu tion of dealings with
the busin community. While her opponent
says that under his administration the city
will furnish the infrastructure for a new Tiger
stadium, he whines that there is little else he
can do but beg to get Detroiters jobs building
that stadium. "You can' hold a gun to some­
one's head," he says. .
However, if the city provid the beets and
McPhail has promised to expand
democracy and coountability by -
tabli hing local councils. She ha
promised to m e available the eban­
doned property both idential and
commercial, and provide ineenti to
r idents to develop those properti .
She has demonstrated a willing­
n to follow in a great tradition­
like the mothers who protected their
SODS from the lynch mobs; like So­
journer Truth who led her brothe
and sisters out f lavery; like Rosa
Parks who st p to the whole
aparthied sy tem of the South­
McPhail displays a oompassion for
the little man, and the strength to
deliver in the clutch .
We believe her toughne , her
motherhood, will rve us well, move
the city ahead and make a better life for its
idents. And that after all is what an elec­
tion is all about.
Vote Sharon McPhail for Mayor of Detroit.

dating to the economic forces that have made
good money off the city while its idents lag
behind.
