Term or Ca h alue
Term or temporary insuran was d igned to provide poli
cyholders with hort t rm, rather than life-long prot tion. It
. n rally when a young family n a I rge amount of
lif insurance co rage but i no abl to afford a h value
policy.
T rm insuran is pu h ed for a pecifi erm, one to
twenty y . At th end of th term, the policy can be newed,
or e it expi . The premium increase with each renewal
becau you are getting older. Term insurance d not build
up a cash value and is nerally not available after age 65.
Properly used, term insurance fill a definite need for low
cost, hort-term prot ion. If, t rm insurance is purchased to
cover your entire lifetime, it can be th m t expensive type of
policy.
Ca h Value
There are many variations of cash value life insurance
policies. Most provide the me death benefit throughout your
life well as a et premium payment . .In a cash value life
insurance poliC1 you will pay the same premium at a 65 as
you did when you where 30.
The implest form of cash value life insurance is whole life
or "permanent" life insurance, In other words, the policy re
mains in force throughout your lifetime. This is the basic type
of insurance that many families u in th ir prot tion pi ns.
It has the advantage of building up cash value which you
can use later in a number of way . For example, when you
retire, you can surrender your policy' . nd t ke th urnulr t d
cash value.
Shop and Compare
It is always wi to inquire about th ctual cost of your
insurance. A prof ional agent should prepared to giv you
\lch information.
Cost information will given in th form of an index, either
a surrender cost or ant paym nt. t index. Th net payment
cost index is based on the amount paid at your death and is
useful in comparing policies.
The surrender cost index is based on wh t you would t if
you turn the policy in. It is u ed to mpar ca h VC III b w n
policies.
A policy with a smaller number is gen rally b tter buy th n
a comparable policy with a larger ind x. Knowing how to
compare policies and how much you hould pay will r ult in
more coverage for I money, Consult with your hf in urance
agent for more information.
The Agent i Key
