tive and Japancs Americans.
Recently, Cuba offered to pay
reparations to u.s. corporations a
"goodwill gesture" for U.S. ized in
the 1960. Meanwhile, African
Americans continue to fight for repa
ration on the North American
continent.
"GOOD LUCK TO them (Cu
bans) " said Reparations Ray Jenkins,
a long time crusader of reparations for
African-Americans and local N'CO
BRA (National Coalition of Blacks for
Reparations in America) member.
"But I would hope that the U.S.
would extend a little 'goodwill g -
ture' to the Black people of the United
States. We've been waiting for 129
years and no one has given us a 'good
will gesture."
Yet National Board member of
N'COBRA, Dr. Imari A. Obadele be
lieves that it is the U.S. who should pay
reparations to Cuba .
• "U.S. should end its use of food as
a weapon against Cuba and restore
diplomatic relations," suggests Dr.
Obadele.
"Cuba is de perately suffering
from embargoes. I think the g ture
was done so that they (Cubans) could
win a change. But the U.S. press isn't
fair. They have the Clinton admini-
tration against the anti-Castro Cu
bans in Miami. That's why a lot hasn't
been heard on this 'gesture'. The U.S.
press isn't on the Cubans' side."
OBADELE, As ociate professor
of Political Science at Prairie View
A&M, is also the author "The New
International Law Regime". 1991. a '
