"WE'D I D LOOPS and
take tbern to J-Swift. The he'd
make t beats, and after that we
would rhyme freestyle over the
tracks, and see what we needed to
add or take out. Somebody would
do something crazy, and we would
use itas the boo orwe would find
a hook within the freestyle rap and
repeat it," Darley Boy continued.
Perfect example is "If I Were
President", a skit that most moth
ers woul't be proud to hear but
would have to validate its truth.
Taking a citizens' stance
against the economy (because, ba
sically that's what we really worry
about when it com to the Presi-
. d t, our Y t ri t1), &roup
tales that somet in I wrong
with . n ry
cause none of the money' 'trick
ling down to me". They lso take
an interest because "my girl needs
new clothes and I need new sneak
ers".
On a lighter note, one of many
on "Bizarre", "4 Better. or 4
Worse", is a mock marriage of,
well, Rhymolina. The track map;
out more weird crazy Pharcyde ,
relationships between men and
rhymes. A must hear is the bizarre
fatal attraction-obscene phone call
at the end. Don't be scared, its
only a track.
The remix of "Soul Flower"
and the beat from "I'm That Type
of Nigga" will leave you licking
your lips and fingers. maybe even
your toes.
DON'T ORGET THE cool
breeze of a classic rap ballad
"Passing Me By", which is sure to
remind all females of that one
cooty that was sure to, lovingly,
geJ on your last nerve. Pharcyde
makes the memory of that "special
one" easy to swallow, without grit
ting your teeth.
Almost turning rap into a situ
ation comedy, Pharcyde also
books up with "Officer", a humor
ous look at the relationship be
tween young Black men and the
country's finest, and "Oh Shit", a
reminder of all the embarrassing
situations you made yourself for
get.
Want to 'dig into the insane
mind of Pharcyde? listen closely
to their secrets on "On The D£",
then don't tell anybody. They are
that embarrassing.
Pharcyde' explosion of insan
ity, greasy beats and old ch )
loops is su ful in erasing th
adjective of "Ea t Coa t" and/or
"West Coa t." .
"W rna mu ic that peopl
can't identify by region. The im
p rtant thing for u i that it
d n't sound like anyone el ,"
ays Booty Brown.
"I can t really tell you h w our
album is going hit peopl ." say
Fat lip. "But everyone y that
is sounds lik w 're having a lot of
fun, That' why people get with
u ,becaus every y wants to
have fun."
"Bizarre" ian-stop record
ing of "dozen "on life.

Here i the Hip-hop earth
baking eve that happened in
May-June '93.
Kingz Part Vll: Run-DMC
make a perfect comeback
commercially and under
groum with the rei e of their
7th EP "Down with tIu! King".
They also appeared headlin
ers on "Russell Simons's Pha:
Jam" June 18th.
Gang taz Born: Detroit
bred Bo is one of the first rap
artist from the Motor aty to
take a successful tep on to the
char1s, with a seemingly perfect
foundation (Jay Master Jay'
female protege).
14 soots to the career: lL
Cool J's album "14 Shots to the
Dome" kind of made you wish
it would get more than shot,
more like bombed (which it is).
Ego trippin': Gang Star's
Guru got together with a couple'
of new breeds and legendary
jaxz artis for "Jazzmaaz", a
decent album but I wish they
deleted the raps and let the mu
sic play.
Nae: See June 6-12, 1993
Entertainment page for the real
deal on "Jazzmatozz". No of
fense, Shock, we just don't be-
II u all "'time.
Slammin': Hip-hop's ko
jaks, Onyx, are making tepa to
become amongst the ranks of
hip-hop leaders. Already with
the greasy album "Bacdafucup"
and a hellifying tage sbow,
they already havethe main in
gredients, not to mention their
position on the charts.
Eazier Tommin': Ruthless
records prezEazy-E setback hi
album 'Temporarily Insane"
due date to predicted low sales.
Most rap consumers and writers
(including me) think E is tem
porarily insane siding with offi
cer Briseno in the Rodney King
case. Yo, E, blood is thicker
than legal papers!
Get 'em: Detroit recording
artist UC recently sold 4,CXX>
copies of their hit single "Get
Geekedl" in 2 weeks. For this
city. that's an amazing sales fig
ure ': Congratulations !

Who knew that the hilariously
ridiculous track ''Ya Mama", re
leased, in music industry years, a
good while ago, would be fol

Well, now, everyone can know
because "Bizarre Ride II the Phar

Pharcyde s humor i almost
drunk with an insane flavor that
would even make the class goody
, goody chuckle (not in front of any
body, mind you) to her/himself.
DA Y BOY AND LIM

in the rap industry being break
dancers, billed as Two For Two,
and performed on "In Living
Color" as well as several music
vid os (before you dismi them,
remember Ice-Tin the "Pee Wee
Herman" video).
Fat Lip joined the duo, forming
a trio, while attending South Cen

by A&M Records for aspiring
dancers, ingers, rappers and pro
ducers.
