pany landed a major contract with the
new V. A. Ho pital under construc­
tion in Detroit's Medical Center. As a
. result the growing distributor of qual­
ity plumbing, heating equipment and
pipi ng supplies decided to pure
the former Hugh Rader umber Com­
pany facility to expand ex> li­
date its warehouse space along
Hamilton. Under President Kathleen
Andrew Kalt the company has cut
costs aggressively, ard was cited by
Crain's Detroit Business as an excel­
lent example of how to survive these
tough economic times.
- Congratulations to Clarence
Johnson, treasurer of the HP Chamber
of Commerce, who was named Hon­
orary President for Life of the Inter­
national Weightlifting Federation.
Clarence has been an officer of the
Federation for over 40 years and was
recently pictured on the cover of two
magazines in recognition of thi latest
honor. Beside his Weightlifting com­
mitments, Clarence has been a long
time Board Member of the HP Cham­
berand the HP Family YMCA, where
the weightlifiting r m was dedicated
in his honor a year ago. At f!:7 years
old, Clarence still works as a CP A and
has retained his pilot' license ince
1960.

tic, a Democratic precinct delegate, a
candidate for the Highland Park
School Board and a vocal critic of
policies at City Council public es­
sions, say th city budget can be
balanced without cutting police fire,

off lower level employee or cutting
their alaries.

will be held at City Council offices
5:30 p.m. Monday May 10 and the
final deci ion on the bud et will be
made Monday May 17.

tomers, and firing city employees
will make citizens unable to make
purchases.

consider these proposals: .
. n Eliminating the Mayor's Ad­
ministrative Assistant, who makes
$47,000. Bostic says let his secre­
tary-at $25,334 a year-handle
these functions at a raise in pay.
n Have the Compensation board
exami ne the alaries and "perks" for
the Mayor and City Council. Under
the proposed budget, the Mayor, who
has a full time position, would make
$52,541 a year. The four part-time
council members get $10,104, (at a
total ot 40,116) while the council
president gets $10,777.·

which in the proposed budget is
