Arts!Fe t! '93 planned at
LMC's Mendel Center
Arts IFe t! '93 will h Id October 22-24, at Lake Michigan College
Mendel Center. Thi year' event will co-sponsored by LMC, the
BI omland Arts 800 Cultural Council and Cornerstone Alliance'
Vi ion '93.
One new feature thi year will be a Kids Culture Comer. headed by
captain Christie Dicks of Curious Kids' Museum. Other improvements
will include a tronger emphasi on th role of emcees in keeping
ctiviti moving moothly, with Doug H wkes of WHFB Radio coor­
dinating that peet of the f tival.
Other captains are Ruth Sundberg, vi ion arts; Karla' Armstrong­
Hake, music; Mary Alice Kirincie, theatre/literary; Merry Stover, dance;
Glady Peeples Burks, volunteers; Kendall McKinley. sch duling; Patty
Bowen, technical needs; and Joann Phillip, publicity. Representing the
co ponsors on the Arts!Fest! board are Dar Davis, BACC; Don Mikel,
LMC; Carol Sizer; and Cornerstone, Joy Brayak.

Rev. Malloy to speak
at LMC commencement
Rev. Edward A. Malloy, president Univ ity of No e,
will deliver the Commencement add t La.k cnigan ge's
46th Commencement exercises, Sunday _ May 9, in the Mendel Center
atLMC.
Anne E. Mulder, president of Lake Michigan College, will confer
associate degrees and certificates upon 367 tudents during the ceremo­
nies, and Si ter Cathleen Real, C.H.M. president of Siena Heights
College, will confer bachelor's degree upon 36 students graduating
from Siena Heights, celebrating the program's 10th anniversary on the
LMCcamp�.
During the ceremonies, outstanding alumni will be recognized, along
with two outstanding faculty members and a community leader who has
served the College.
Rev. Donald B. Adkins pastor of Second Baptist Church in Benton
Hamor' will receive the Clarence Beckwith Distinguished Service
Award, given annually to an alumnus of Lake Michigan College who
has accomplished significant success in personal and professional en-
deavors. '
Rev. Adkins graduated from LMC in 1971, then attended Andrews
University Theological Seminary, and earned a Doctorate of Divinity
from Urban Bible College in Detroit.
His activities include serving as Chairman of the Board of Berrien
Opportunities Industrialization Center and a board member for, Corner-
stone Alliance. ,
The Alumni Service Award, presented to an alumnus who has made
contributions, personally and professionally to Lake Michigan College
will be awarded to Charles T. Williams, director of the Human and Civil
Rights Divi ion of the National Education As ociation b ed in Wash­
ington, D.C.
Williams earned hi Ass ciate de ree rom LMC In 1 2, Ba helor
degree from Western Michigan University in 1965, Mast r' In guidance
and counseling and Ph.D. in Education Administration from the Univer-
ity of Michigan in 1970 and 1971. Williams founded and erved as
president of the Michigan Alliance of Black Educators and i a member
of the Michigan Alliance of Bl k Educato , a member fthe Michigan
Advi ory Council to the United States Civil Right Commi ion and the
Board of Dir tors of the Child and Family Servi .e of Michigan.
Two Alumni Achievement Award will be pr nted to recent alumni
who hav made important contribunons to their communitie and Lake
Micro an College.
Dr. Ab Goldbaum graduated rom LMC in 19 2 with a nursing
degree. He earned hi Bach lor' degree in biology from the University
of Illinoi in 1984, and graduated from the University's Medical School
in 1991. Currently, he i a resident in phy ical medicine and rehabilita­
ti n with M dical C llege of Milwaukee Wi consin.
Lonlyn Von Koenig, direct r of b nd for Lake hore Public S hool
al graduated from LMC in 19 2. She earned h r B hclor' degree
from We t rn Michigan University and i currently completing her

ory Gardens. Robbins Brothers

rangements.
Mrs. McGrew w born June 27,
1924, in Covington, Tenn. She was a
former beautician in th area for
many years befor retiring. She was
a memb r of Second Baptist Church
and erved on the Pastor's Aid
Board.
Survivors include a brother,
Jam Brooms of Memphi , Tenn.; a
son, David Norri of J on, Mich.;
and one grandchild. Her husband,
Elias, preceded her in death in 1987.
Marcus John Smith was tillbom
April 19, at Mercy Memorial Medi­
cal Center, St. Jo eph, to Lasbonda
Smith of Benton Harbor.
, Graveside ervices was held May
3, at Crystal Springs Cemetery, Ben­
ton Harbor. Arrangements were by
Robbins Brothers Funeral Home,'
Benton Harbor.
Surviving in ddition to his
mother are two brothers, Eric and
Corey, both of Benton Harbor;
grandparents, Melvin and Reneta
Smith of Benton Hamor; and great­
grandparents, Eddie and Francis
Smith of Benton Harbor.
