on, the Panth improved on
their r cord with a 20-9 bowing
which also includ winning this
year's Michigan Junior College State
Championship.
"The budget problem w a main
concern this son," Will' aid.
"We didn't know if we were going to
have a eason."
Willis explained that the budget
i sue caused a couple or pl ers to
quit which hurt th team' playing
chemistry. The incident left Willis
wi th thirteen players, 10 of them
freshman. Willi wondered if he

my players to go to practice and get

But a Light came at the end of the
tunnel for the Panthers when orne
funding finally kicked in at one of th
chool' board meetings. After that,
the res t was academic.
"We won the last 13 out of 15
games" Willis aid. "Seven straight
during the end of the regular e on
which included three games at borne
and four during the state tourna
ment."
Setting th pace for HPCC were
freshmen Andre Gregory (Detroi t
Central) and Kenny Patterson (De
troi t ortbem). Gregory led the Pan
thers in scoring and rebounding
averaging 242 points per gam and
133 rebounds per game. Patterson
aver ged 22.7 points per game and
12.2 rebound per game.
