HIGHLAND PARK _:_ Highland Park -School Di trict won a 92,083 state grant for a drug-free program, it was announced at the March 9 Board of Trustees meeting. Nell Stout coordinator for tate and federal projects in the Highland Park school system, aid tbe staff was particularty happy about thi grant because Highland Park got it on its own "as a district and not as part of a consortium." The grant will be used to support education about the dangers of drugs, prevention and intervention. It will get parents involved and timulate neighborhoods to d vetop a upport sy tern against drugs. The school system would be in­ volved in tea hing youngsters about the dangers of drugs: Stout aid from kindergarten through the thi rd grade, young ters would learn about the dangers of drugs through the use of puppets. In higher grades, the schools would fol­ lo . the portion 0 the Michigan Model curriculum dealing with drug education. Stout confess d she has orne ideas -which some other staff mem­ bers considered too ambitious- for teachingaboutdrug in mathard ci­ ence. BLACKWELL IN addition has been named chairman of the NACo aviation subcommittee of the Committee on Transporta­ tion.
