HIGHLAND PARK - In
celebration of the life and
times of Malcolm X, the city
in conjunction with High­
land Park Schools District
and HPCC sponsored Mal­
colm X Week, November 9-
13.
The week of festivities
incl uded the official Decla­
ration of Malcolm X Week
by Mayor Linsey Porter,
Open Houses at HP Senior
Citizens Complex, HPCC
and HPCHS. Glendale Ave
was renamed Malcolm X
during the week of celebra­
tion.
The Marketplace, herd at
the Blackwell Center at­
tracted people from
, throughout the metro area.
V ... ndors from as far
away as Georgia sold
watche carving, hats,
jewelry and bracelets.
The week came to a con­
clusion with the 'Black Tie'
Affair held at HPCC.
According to Ameenah
Omar, director of admis­
sions, HPCC, the event was
a total success and everyone
is looking forward to next
year' celebration of Mal­
colmX Week.
