emerges as intriguing Nubian
noize. "Making music is about
being creative, It says Showbiz.
"What I do is take found sounds
and transform them into my own
music. I've always dug big-band
music, which ensures that you
can always swing or bounce to
what I do. I transform that style
into hip-hop."
Runaway Slaves proves that
the brilliance of "Soul Clap" was
no fluke. Amid dope and dusty
grooves, are some of the smartest
rhymes about ghetto reality and
the world of the B-Boy (hangin'
under street lights, drinking 40s,
smoking blunts and flexing, play­
ing for keeps, getting laid and
staying paid). The little track
snaps a sharp aural portrait of the
urban landscape: "Livin' in da
slums with the bums/The rats and
the stray cat , dogs with the
rabies, little babies havin'
babies/Juveniles act wild/Every
footstep you take on the corner

gin in the crates") and dreaming

So Showbiz,& A.G. are rollin'
steady on a road to riches. Ul­
timately, though, this road will
continue to bring them back to the
place that inspired their unique
world view and original form of
musical expression in the first
place.
