tI Bobby Jones Presents ... ": The
recent Stellar Awards drew gospel's'
biggest stars to Los Angeles. Among
them was Bobby Jones who this year
became an associate producer on the
show. While Jones wasn't nominated.
he had more than his share of great
news. Late last month, Jones pacted
w Sparrow Records OIl a production
deal for his own label, dubbed "Bobby
Jones Presents." Says Jones, "I'll
have an opportunity to bring to the
nation new and different kind of
gospel music that's going to make a
difference in a lot of ways because I'm
going to try and fin some needs." For
years, lones' burgeomng popularity
bad at its base his top-rated gospel
music TV show. His Bobby Jones
Show was BETs top vote getter with
viewers. Now, the 54-year old gospel
personality is teaming with Stellar
Award producer Don Jackson in the
development of a new half-hour eries
for commercial TV. "I like all facets
of the gospel music industry, and I
think it's wonderful to be able to
move in and out of so many areas of
the industry."
Growth for Bobby 1 ones has not been
limited to his top-rated BET series-
The Bobby Jones Gospel Show and
or recording pursuits. The site of his
popular bi-annual"Gospel Explosion"
(an industry event featuring seminars
and Artist showcases) is now moving
to Atlanta, Georgia. "The response to
it has been so overwhelming that we
could not retain it in Nashville, so the
city of Atlanta invited us to come
there," Jones explains. In the
meantime, the first project for Jones'
new Jabel is his own upcoming
album, tentatively titled "Bringing It
To Jesus". Featuring his own TV
group, the New Life Singers, It's

anyone that the Mississippi Mass
Choir walked off with "Choir of the
year/lraditional" at the 8th Annual
Stellar Awards. Their fll'st album was
number one on the gospel music
charts for nearly a year. This album .
was appropriately enough titled "God
Oets The Glory". That also sums up
how director David Curry felt after
receiving the recent honor. "I'm really
thrilled because people were saying
that our second album wasn't gotting
enough recognition as the first, but I
don't care," Curry states. "The only
thing I wanted to do is God gets the
glory out of everything I do, and he
gave us this benefit (or doing this as
well.".
Overjoyed: 1992 ·has go: to be the
year for Milton Brunson and his
Thompson Community Choir,
affectionately dubbed "the Tommies",
topping off the gospel charts with
their smash release, "My Mind's Made
Up" • and now garnering three Stellar
awards. For Miltop Brunson, the
accolades are long overdue. Says
Brunson: "the Tommies have been
out here a long time. I figured .
ometime thal they were ignored years
ago, cause they've been putting out
powerful music for years, but you
have to wait and God opens the doors
and your day comes and I'm glad. The
day is coming. I feel like my mind is
made up. It's just tremendou the way
we're geuing treated about that record
and I'm so glad."
