if you're entirely bald, Rogaine
probably won't help. Rogaine is now
being prescribed for women, as well.
In one clinical trial, about one half
of all women t ted had "some" new

experienced "moderate" hair growth.
Finally, Rogaine does have it' draw

However, the two biggest problems

gratified that the State of Michigan
has received a federal waiver to apply
for federal funds to match private
donations made to the Caring Pro
gram for Children.
"It's important for everyone to
recognize the grant is a challenge to
the people of Michigan to meet the
needs of the uninsuredchildreilinour
state," he said. "This is a matching
grant;' we're not going to get those
dollars unless people step forward to
make a contribution."
The Caring Program provides free
preventive, outpatient health care
coverage to lower-income, un-in

The non-profit program is a uni

and Blue Shield of chigan, the
State of Michigan, the Michigan

-Weight I ,"4"IIt. ... edt- ....
Cross training promote calorie
burning as well as fat mobiliza
tion. By exercising moderately
for a long period of time (30
minutes or more), the body is en
couraged to use fat and fat store
for fuel (not just carbohydrates).
-Contlnuou motlvatlon
Cross training provides variety.
We all know "Variety is the spice
of lifo". .
-Reduce Injury rl k-The
same body parts are not continual
ly stressed because cross training
spreads the imposed stress around
to different muscle groups.
-Develops muscle balance
Opposing muscle groups (biceps
and triceps) develop with ap
propriate ratios of flexibility and
strength. Cross training allows
muscles to be used in a variety of
ways. The body then moves more
efficiently and injury prevention is
enhanced.
Today, almost
one million
Americans are
infected with HI'/.
How's it all
to end.
This year alone, thousands more Americans are
expected to get HIV. the virus that causes AIDS,
Whyl The answer is simple.
Every day, many sexually active people put
themselves at risk for sexually transmitted
diseases (STo's). And what puts them at risk
for these STo's is exactly what puts th m at
risk for HIV - their behaviors.
SOME 1,400 CHILDREN have
been enrolled in the program since it
began last November. Approximate
ly 3,600 are on the program's waiting
list.
The Blues donate administrative I
services to the Caring Program, in
cluding claims processing, so every
dollar raised goes directly to health
care coverage for children. A con
tribution of$354 provides health care
coverage to one child for one year.
The federal government will
match an average 40 cents f.ar each
private dollar donated, up to a maxi
mum matchofapporximately $6 mil
lion over three years.
The list goes on. Probably the
most important advantage of cross
training is overall fitness. You can
plan a well rounded workout pro
gram that leads to overall fitness.
It is important to remember to
start slowly and progress gradual
ly, your muscles will love you for
it. Design your program to fit your
needs, skill and ability level.
Make your program fun by includ
ing recreational activities (bowl
ing, skating, etc).
Keep it simple. Use the sample I
cross training schedule below as a
guide. Use different types of ex
ercises, combinations, and se
quences.
The truth is that all sexu lIy. transmitted
diseases are preventable. Abstinence is, of
course, the safest measure. People. who enjoy a
mutually faithful relationship with an uninfect d
partner can feel compfetely safe. And, there are
. condoms. When used properly, condoms can
prevent not only HIV, but all sexually trans
mitted diseases.
HIV is frightening. But it's also preventable. All
it takes is your commitment.

The flu strains expected this

B/Panama and B/Qingdao.
A/Texas and B/Panama are

"People in high risk groups should'

early, as happened in 1991-92."
