"We went into court unrepresented, our
attorney was out of town. We bad 10 days to
make a motion and get a postponement of
eviction, aid Barbara Beck, clinical and
operations director for New Life.
On September 29, New Life did buy time
when SL Benedicts agreed to a 30 day extension
on the 10 day eviction notice. New Life had to
Life Home for failure to pay rent since January
1991.
New Life Home, a non-profit organization
funded by the State, is located in the old St.
Benedict convent, 45 Chandler in Highland
Park.
The Home has served over 500 women
substance abusers since it was founded in 1986.
. Residents undergo intensive counseling and self
reevaluation as a part of individual treatment for
up to one year.
There are only two uch facilities in the
IDGII.LAND PARK -Is the Detroit Catholic
Archdiocese motivated by the gospel or money?
For some 30 women, all recovering addicts and
alcoholics, they think it's money. The women
will be turned out on the street if the Archdiocese
wins its legal battle against New Life Home for
Recovering Women.
