DETROIT - As the Detroit School Board met with the Oetroi t Federa tion of Teachers over the weekend, two parents, accompanied by several students, were picketing to get both sides to settle "for the children'S One of th arents outspoken commurutyachVlstlIelen oore, ex pressed doubts on Saturday that one side was more responsible for the strike than the other. By Sunday evening, Moore had changed her mind, charging that the school board had taken all the issues "off the table", including what had already been agreed to. Press reports on T.V. and radio said the same thing. "THIS IS A hame. This is a crime against the children," Moore said. "There's a hidden agenda. They (the school board members) don't want a settlement." School Superintendent Deborah McGriff had a different view. "We presented a proposal to the union," McGriff said.. "The union rejected the proposal. Therefore, we moved the proposal off the table." McGriff said that management believed the union would accept the proposal involving a 3 percent wage increase and this would settle the strike. When the union rejected it, management called for a temporary adjournment of the negotiations: said.
