Annual NAACP
Baby Contest held

MUSKEGON - The Local Chap
ter of the NAACP recently held their
Annual Baby Contest. .
This year's 1st prize went to 3
year-Old Domnique Blackman, 2nd
prize to 6 year-old Kemiura Gordan,
3rd prize to 1 year-old Ollietta
Merskin, and 4th prize went to 4
year-old Lequte Taylor.
Domnique is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Douglas Blackman;
Kemiura is the grandaughter of Mrs.
Leala Chambers; Ollietta is the
daughter of Mrs. Ruby Merkson; and
Lequte is the grandaughter of Mr.
Ben Jones.
The Local Chapter started the
baby contest in 1979 by Mr. Edgar
Rainey, who till �erves as Chairper
son.
The first to win the baby contest
trophy was Heather Smith, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Simon and Inez
'Smith, Heather was 2 years-Old at ,
that time. She is now 15-years-olJ.

Religious Affairs of the Local
NAACP always gives a thank you
dinner for the committee. They are

The gala opening of the 1992-93
season of the West Shore Symphony
will be Friday and Saturday, Septem
ber 25 and 26, at 8 p.m. in the Frauen
thai Theater in Muskegon, under the
baton of Maestro Murray Gross.
The program will also feature six- ,
teen year old violinist Juliette Kang,
playing Dvorak' "Romance" and
the exciting "Carmen Fantasy" by
Georges Bizet, arr. by Sarasate.
