p
soumn D - The words, songs
and prayers had filled tb air and it
w time for Reverend Johnnie E.
Jordan, the p tor of Greater Mount
Olive Bap ist Church to deliver hi
tirring rmon to th 45th Annual
National Quartet Convention of
American (Ind.) Inc. at the Plaza
Hotel in Southfield.
In all probability the hotel had
never heard thelile of Reverend Jor
dan, especially his "So p Opera
Prayer."
During the ermon, the Reverend
preached his way through All My
Children, stopped off at General
Hospital as he talked about that Guid
ing Light.
The Days of Our Lives and Ryan'
Hope swelled the rafters with A
Search for Tomorrow.
Yet! "Through it all," refrain
many at piritual gatherin e, ten
year-old John E. Lovald, in a quiet
nd dignified way, demanded atten
tion.
John! mall of tature and because
of a malady that brought him to
Detroit for the past ix years, seemed,
through dim lights, 1 mature than
he actually w .
He at! seemingl unaware of hi
surroundings; unmind ul of the hal
lel ujahs and amens exploding around
him. But when our eyes met I real
ized that whatever essment I h d
been moving towards was meaning
less and I can only describe what
transpired with the word dignity.
AND SO WE smiled - talked the
language. of compassion - and
"through it all," uttered not one single
word.
