bogged down in individual pettiness
a.nd resentment of each others skills.
Bisbop Adams stressed that the
AME Church leadership must set the
moral climate in which the church
body funcnons. He admonished the
bishops to be more spiritual and less
political. He said that be recognized
the needs for food, clothing, shelter,
security, education, work, health
care, recreation and a sense of ac
complishment. He concluded, "God
will not deny our need ,for thinp.
There' nothing holy about poverty.
But man does not live by bread
alone. We also need integrity, faith,
dignity, honor, truth, belonging, a
sense of destiny, hone ty, and
friendship. The Church will not be
saved by new laws, new money, new
bishops, new general officers, or
new programs. "What we need i
new power" .
