New Medicine :provides Shorter Treatment

A recently approved antibiotic medicine has several dvantage when
given to individual for certain mild to moderate infections. The new
antibiotic i azithromycin. Dr. ,Thomas Andriole, a physician t Yale
University School of Medicine, comments in a rectnt i ue of the medical
joutnal, Geriatrics, about this new infectiO!l-fighter. According to Dr.
Andriole, azithmmycin offers three de irable feature to the patient: the
antibiotic is well tolerated by mo t individuals; it has been hown.to be
effective in patients with mild to moderate infection that do not require
ho pitalization; and the do ing chedule i very convenient

Pfizer, the manufacturer of azithromycin (Zithromax), the acceptab!e length
of treatment for thi new antibiotic is five day . Dr. Andrio1e indicates that
results after five day of therapy with this medicine compare favorably with
10 to 14 day of therapy with many other oral antibiotic .
