the gospel music community, and

Oakland, CA. Whitfield, 38, died of
a massive coronary heart attack, June
21 in Detroit.
Nicknamed "the master producer
of gospel".
He is best remembered for his
work with Vane sa Bell Armstrong
on her "Peace Be Still" LP, for which
he received his fir t Grammy
nomination.
As a gospel recording artist,
Whitfield recorded more than nine
albums, receiving Grammy nomina
tions for "And They Sang A Hymn"
(1989), and "My Faith" (1990). His
current album, ironically enough
titled "Alive & Satisfied" was
released in February. "It's probably
