Inez Waddell, Principal of the
Boynton Montessori Magnet School
said, the idea for the library w
originated by Dr. Suzanne Davi ,
Admini trator at Boynton
Montessori.
Waddell said Dr. Davis had
included the plans of a library in her
5-year plan, having either a
nine-reference library or having a
library and having it completed by
the 1991 school year for students use
by 1992.
"MIs. Shirley Collins, Principal
in the District received information
about a Federal Magnet Orant and
she put the package together. She
met with Central Administration and
we received over a million dollars for
all of the Magnet schools," Waddell
said.
She opened the t Kindergarten
Montessori cl room at Morton in
1982 and there he fostered a love of
learning in each student and as
named "Teacher of the Year" for the
di trict,
In 1983 Mrs. Waddell moved to
the magnet program at Boynton. She
served as Director of Pipestone
Preschool in 1985-86 and Boynton
Monte ori Principal, 1988 to
present.
In the 1990-91 chool year
W ddeU was the recipient of an
administrator award. She is credited
with ini tiating steps for acc.reditation
of the Boynton Montessori School
by the North Central Acciedition
Association.
Mrs. W ddell bas dedicated her
life to continuous updating of the
Monte sori philo ophy and
methodology for the betterment of
teachers and, ultimately, the children
of the Benton Harbor Area Schools.

additional monie available. She
aid they had a mini-reference
library, which 0 small that only
four students could it. With the
additional funds they decided to use
it for a library.
During the ceremony, Mrs.
Waddell was also honored for her
dedication to the library project-and
organizing the Montessori program.

she was presented a pI que and a
portrait of her from Carolyn Graves,
President, of the Board of Education.
The picture will be placed in the
library.
Waddell began her teaching tin
the Benton Harbor Area Schools in
1965 as an elementary teacher at
Bard Elementary School. For the
past 26 y� she has been dedicated
to excellence in education and bas
provided motivation and inspiration
to the Benton HaIbor Area Schools.

The morning and afternoon Pre-
· school classes of Mrs. Johnson and
Mrs. Maddux at Bard Elementary
School held an Award Day Program
for their pre-schoolers th t were
.. promoted to Kindergarten.
During the Award Program the
students sung nursery rhymes for the
· parents and other family members
· that attended.
