In 1989, Sherry Washington, a
University of Michigan Alumnus
quit her finance job in city govern
ment to fulfill her dream as the owner
of the Sherry Washington Gallery.
· The young proprietor stresses that
her gallery business involves increas
ing art consciousness as much as sell
ing paintings. Washington is
dedicated to discovering hidden art:
ist and redi covering those over
looked because of racism. Alto, he
lectures to civic groups aDd public
chools about the many contribu
tions of African American artist.
The Sherry Washington Gallery,
located in downtown Detroit, repre
sents several talented artist including
two leading and internationally ac
claimed artist, Benny Andrews and
