In 1989, Sherry Washington, a
University of Michigan Alumnus
quit her finance job in city govern­
ment to fulfill her dream as the owner
of the Sherry Washington Gallery.
· The young proprietor stresses that
her gallery business involves increas­
ing art consciousness as much as sell­
ing paintings. Washington is
dedicated to discovering hidden art:
ist and redi covering those over­
looked because of racism. Alto, he
lectures to civic groups aDd public
chools about the many contribu­
tions of African American artist.
The Sherry Washington Gallery,
located in downtown Detroit, repre­
sents several talented artist including
two leading and internationally ac­
claimed artist, Benny Andrews and
Rl�hard Mayhew.
