Russia deepen our own recession?
By RON SEIGEL
Correspondent
Now that Russia has rid itself of a
Communist dictatorship, is it now
being pressured to take orders from
George Bush.
This was suggested by a reporter
for U.s. News and World Report on
"The Denny Mc Clain Show" on
radio station WXYt A.M.
The reporter noted that plans of
seven western nations to give loans
to Russia had conditions, to create
changes in the CQUDtry, which were
unacceptable to the Russia people as
a whole. .
Criticizing the .current
democratic Russian Premier Boris
Yel tzen for holding back, he noted
that one change that could be made

easil y was the "privi tiza tion of land."
When McClain asked whether
this was significant, "because the
Russians are too poor to buy land,"
the reporter said this would
"facilitate foreign investment."
"At a time 'when GM plants are
leaving Willow Run, why is
President George Bush twisting
Boris Yeltzen's arm to take
measures making it easier for
businesses to go to Moscow?" one
observer asked.
"At a time when Governor Engler
is cutting people offall aid, under the
justification of improving the
business climate in foreign lands," he
added, "Is all this misery being
caused to promote American jobs or
to improve profits for the special
interests?" he said.

The Black community is stew
ing with heated debates concern
ing people using welfare and' food
stamps. This issue is explosive be
cause political candidates exploit
the problem and leave the wrong
impression that most welfare
recipients are Black.
Several networks including
ABC and. the Donahue Show have
reported that most welfare
recipients are white, but ABC and
others constantly televi e welfare
recipient who are nearly all
Black.
Government statistics show
most welfare people are white and
rural, not close to television
cameras.
Some Blacks are houting the
right-wing propaganda that the
welfare problem would be solved
if Blacks would simply decide they
want work instead of a "free ride."
These Blacks are misinformed
about the welfare numbers and
were shown on CBS complaining
about welfare Blacks while
slavishly grinning and almost
bowing at conserative white
politicians.
