off with a hard new-jack- wing beat,

rocks with restrained elegance.
"Again" is a hauntingly beautiful
hymn, lifted to new heights of heart
wrenching p ion by Green's fal
setto; on the last chorus, a children's
choir joins in.

"You Don't Know Me," which rides
a timeless Hammond organ line with
tightly arranged female vocals.
AI Green was born April 13, 1946
in Forrest City, Arkansas. He began
his performing career in gospel, tour
ing with his bass-player father
Robert Green. Later on, Al formed
an R&B group called Al Green & the
Creations, followed (circa 1967) by
AI Green & the Soul Mates, who e
recording of "Back Up Train" hit the
R&B Top Five in 1967.

and "Full Of Fire." Between 1971
and 1975, AI Green collected five
gold albums and eight gold singles.
In 1974, AI Green experienced a
much-publicized conversion, and
was later ordained as pastor of the
Full Gospel Tabernacle in Memphis.
His gradual return to go pel music
was herald by the c1 ic 1m album
Bell and the Grammy-winning The
LordWillMaUA Way.
GREEN MADE AN unexpected
but welcome return to the Pop Top
Ten in 1988 with "Put A Little Love
In Your Heart," a duet with Annie
Lennox that was featured in the
soundtrack of Scrooged. The best
tracks from Green's '80s gospel
discs-The Lord Will Make A Way,
Higher Plane, Precious Lord, Trust
In God-were collected on the 1991
Word/Epic album One In A Million.

ttl just think that the old days were
the old days, and now is now. There
fore, I don't live in the past, I live in
the future. 'Let's Stay Together' is
great, but it's still 20 years old. We
can't live in '73-it's almost '93!tt
