We all nt to be more effective
in produ ing re ults. Mo t people
mi takenly pend time attempting to
om more efficient. Yet, efficien
cy i not the key to getting mor
done. Accomplishment require
effectivene ,not efficiency. Let' re
define these two important word.
Efficiency: The art of laying busy
all the time, making som u e of
every moment.
Efficiency i like being in a road
race with no de tination. The effi
ciency trap otten cause you to end
your day with thoughts like, HI wa
so busy all day long, but I ju t don't
feel like I ccompli bed much."
Effectiveness: The ience of pro
perly planning-with priorities.
Effectivene re ults from pro
ducing the greate t re ults in the
horte t time and with the lea t
effort. Effectiveness produces re
sults, efficiency often only produce
motion-a big difference. So how do
you uddenly become more effective?
Strategy: To become more effec
tive you must apply the 20 percent
rule. Thi critical rule of succe ful
living say that 20 percent of the
item you could spend your time on
ch day will produce 80 percent of
the re ul you re fter,
Conversely, pending your time
on ny of the re t of the 80 percent
of the item on your "to do" Ii t ha
th maximum potential of producing
only 20 percent of the re ults you are
seeking.
Let' ¥ that you have a mental
or written li t of everything you
M>Uld like to get done during the day.
In the pure tn, it would be a
waste of your time, talent and emo
tional energy to pend time on
anything not in the top 20 percent of
your li t until that 20 percent ha
been lIy completed. That' the
point.
Once you have decided what i
important, ask yourself what you can
do from your Ii t that will produce
the greatest re ults. Why spend tim
on anything else?
Pull out your list several time a
day andmake sure you are on track.
Use your mind like a laser beam,
focusing total attention on your
priorities. You will produce results.
Practical, po itive trategie even
tually become automatic ucce
habits.
