leges."
"There was plenty of Black
support for the 'Talented Tenth'
concept too," the Reverend said.
"And don't you get me started
about that bourgeoisie 'Sugar
Hill Crowd' either."
"Well. What do you want?" I
asked. "You can't have it both
ways. Either you get funding for
Black chools or you don't, And
which ever way the ball bounces
there will be a price to pay."
"You're right! Brother Wrote.
It's a no win situation," the
Reverend said. "So you tell me:
what is the answer?"
"Me. Huh? You want me to
tell you what to do?" I asked.
"That's funny. I've never heard
that before. But since you need
my advice, I'll give it to you and
I won't charge for it either.
"You see Reverend, the
Supreme court, which will
probably. hand down a decision,
interprets the .law men make," I
said. "So it's not the interpreta­
tion that you should be' concerned
about. Rather. You should be
about the business of electing law
makers-who Will make your con­
cerns law."
"That's it? Huh? Brother
Wrote," the Reverend said. "It's
just that simple?"
"You got that right
Reverend," I said. Remember
that. Point of view and that is the
bottom line."
