HIGHLAND PARK - The Highland Park City
Council voted Mond y Jan 13 to raise tbe pay
of two new officials for orbing new duti .
Scotty W inwright, the ne Admini trativc As­
i tant to the Mayor went from $44,.so1 a year to
S47,000 a year. Michael Ferris, the new Finance
Director went from 3,299 $51,000.
The new admini tration of Mayor Linsey Porte
stated that this w pert of a plan that would even­
tu lly ve the city money. Under the pi n, old jobs
would be eliminated and the two officials would
assume their functions.
Councilwoman Chri tine Franklin and Greta
John on rai ed questions about voting for the alary
increase.
FRANKLIN STATED legally there was a lid on
the budget and new expenditures could not be intro­
duced unless there was a list of budget items
eliminated to cover it.- retlecting the positions that
would be eliminated.

their job de cription to reflect the new duties the
official had to assume.
The admini tration said they would take care of
this paperwork by the February 8th meeting.
While Franklin ex pre sed a desire that the coun­
cil wait until that meeting before taking action,
Councilman Frank Ross praised Wainwright for his
hard work in the courts and said, "We don't want to
hold it (the alary) up."
Franklin later told The Michigan Citizen that her
concern w about following proper procedure and
did not indicate a critical attitude toward Mayor
Porter or his new admini tration.
SH • NOTED SHE had challenged past mayors
- Marth G. Scott and Robert B. Blackwell- on
procedure, and noted, "You can't tart out by doing
it me sy, becau e you've got someone (in the
mayor' office) that you like (Porter)."
She add, "I upport Lin ey (Porter), and want to
help him every way I can."

The local supports a new Indoor
Air Quality Standard proposed by
the tate Public Health Standards

cesstng these standards, the local
union' magazine, tated that the
"most vocal" group ag inst the

Shepard id that school boards
often objected to the costs of main­
taining the new standards and the
labor and time that would be re­
quired to maintain the recorda re­
quired by the standards.
