one of th t-known Blac Americans in the world Colin P ell and J J the I media, mment and r ganizational HNlC:S that Willaims and Graham had t the air ga ignal to their abilities. Over the past 10 years the Republicans have controlled ue White House, Armstrong Wil liams has been making the right rOO in high cird in the party. From the Senate to the Whit: Ho , Williams carved out a ful career path and resume, ling up his R lodex at tbe same time. Irsider to President Bush, Dan Quayl aOO the top oogs at ational Republican Committee (NRC), Williams is reid in high' regard among GOPers around Washington. H is joined in his influence bisiress by Stedman Graham, the nationally-known s1e.ad.y date, and beau, to syndi cated broadcaster Oprah Winfrey. As Black Republicans gain more attention and clout in nation al . ues di ions, and in til! media, many of the gu ts ar WiUiams'event will be the names the public will bearabout, Some of the African Americans in atten dance woo are emerging as leaders in til! Black Deputy to Lee Atwaeranbe RNC; Dayton, Ohio Municipal : Court Judge Bill Uttlejohn; and , Milton B President of the • Council of 100 Black Republicans. WHILE conservative republicans do preach that Blacks bould seek I welfare assistance from the government, many are doingasignificantamountofbist ness with feds and local govern ments. Witness the uccess of Joshua Smith a top D.C. irsider and head of a $60 million-a-year business that gets the bulk of its revenues form government generated ntrac1S. Less rhetoric, more reality and resul may be the reason that Messers, WiUarns and Graham were able to bring out Blacks as diverse as BETs Bev Smith ('OUr Voices") and Angela Stribling, Tim Reid from tv's "Frank's Place"; former Nixon White House Aide Bob Brown; Les Payne o New York's ewsday, the Washington Post's Courtlarxl Milloy, Barty Murray of the Capi tal Spotlight, John Jacob of tre Urban Leegoe and SCLC Presi dent Rev. One of the first things that in dividuals will notice in the new year is lower prices on everything except healthcare costs. Coming down is the co t of oil and money, which will make other items cheaper. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is heading toward 3.5% while the "core" Producer Price Index (PPI) is trending towatd 2.5%. That is good news. The bad news is that unemployment is rising and running out of control. Congress i going to come back from Christmas vacation and plans to do something about the economy. Every elected official is con cerned about the coming election in November. NO MORE depending on a decrease in interest rates by the Federal Reserve Bank or passing "pork barrel" expenditure bills like the $151 billion transporta tion package. People want imme diate intervention with the economy. The President'S push to lower interest rates has not worked to get the economy working again. Aggressive tax reduction is what both Democrats and Republican politicians will be pushing for after the State of the Union flap by the President. Putting cash in the pockets of the people who will purchase products and put money in investments is an idea as well a , a tried and tru way to start the economy going up. • ncan con m um A Service f American Ru inc Information • S711 So. 86cb CirrI .. • Omaha, NE 68127 FI CAL POLICY, the use of government taxing and spending power is prime [or use. The monetary policy of the· Federal Reserve Sy tern to start the economy by putting more cash in the economy with low interest rates has only hurt senior citizens living off a fixed income and helped the b8nY.8 bathing in high credit card interest charges. Cut ting taxes will allow Congress to pinpoint who exactly will get a break. Being an entrepreneur will help both you and the economy in the event capital gain taxes are lowered. Lower taxes on those who will spend more will make the economy get up and go. A reintroduction in the right direc tion of investment tax credit could help a number of U.S. in dustries. Individuals need tax relief and return on their investments. The call to Co ngress to "do some thing" is real because we are in a recession and have been for over two years! There is no double dip, be cause there never was any upturn other than in the President's upper lip. Reading his lips can ruin a country.
