like Shante, Earl Keys has
overcome many 0 tacles on of
them life threatening. He has
been battling leukemia and other
misfortunes for many years, with
courage, unselfi hness and deter
mination. Earl has been in and
out of the hospital. At times he'
been able to go to school, but at
other times he was 0 weak or in
so much pain, even home lessons
were' almost impo sible. At
present, the leukemia is in remis-

ON TOP OF his illness, Earl
endured, within a five-month
period, the I of both of his legal
guardians, who had raised him as

When his "mom" became ill,
Earl pent his money on driving
lessons so he would not have to
take him to his medical appoint

family responsibilities, after his
"dad" died unexpectedly, even
though Earl was not well enough
to go to school. When his morn
died, it was Earl who made
fruneral and burial arrangements.
Today Earl live with his
natural mother. He has a part

to attend high school. Earl's
hopes are simple. "I hope to con
