bou . A low-grad fever (100 to 102 d gree ) may occur with minor
problem uch an uncomplicated upper re piratory tr ct infection.
What one hould do about high fever in child h a lot to do with the
ge and condition of th child. For example. a toddler with a temperature
of 104 who i playing and eating well gen r lly i of Ie concern than a
child with a temperature of 102 who i irritable or not eating. On the other
hand. a re tie newborn or infant with a temperature of 100 to 101 may
require immediate medical care.
There are everal thing one hould do or not do when a child h high
fever. For one thing. never give the child a ponge bath in rubbing alcohol
or ice water. Rapid lowering of fever often can be achieved with a tepid
or wann water bath. Tepid water bath hould, however. be reserved for'
temperatures that exceed 104. Mo t authoritie recommend acetamino
phen the be t and afe t fever medicine for children. Make certain to u
the correct dose ba ed on the child' age and/or weight.
