THE ANSWER Carter G.
Woodson offered us 58 years
go w that "We had been
mis-educated I"
I totally agree that the
amwer to these questions are
not only the failure of our
educational institutions, but
corporate America and our
government's inability to
project and carry out any cam
paigns to rectify the effect of
246 years of exploitation of
African Americans during
slavery and over three and one
half centuries of racism.
America has espoused the
idea ofself-govemment, but in
i practice has shown its in
ability to deal with the ques
tion of race relationships in the
constitution and the Bill of
Rights.
This ev ion has nurtured
the view of white superiority
and that of money being more
important than human life.
American' freedom and
prosperity have been attained
through the disregard and op
pression of African Americans
and other people of color. The
United States has become the
most technologically ad
vanced country in the world,
the expense of becoming the
most politically backward
one!
THESE DEPLORABLE
CONDmONS have in
hibi ted us as a race to become
self-sufficient It is because
the foundation of America was
bull t upon racism that we have
not been able to develop a
foundation for ourselves as a
race capable of competing in
today's society.

porate America'
Because our chool sys-
tems have never had as its goal
the teaching of African'
Americans and especially the
goal of teaching African
Americans to govern, we find
ourselves spending years in
school preparing for a mere
job.
Our schools have prepared
us to fill out job applications,
to be obedient to authority, to
be on time, to obtain a
marketable skill so .we may be
prepared to sell our skills to
, corporate America.

My name i Calvin Howell and I
am an eleventh-grade tudent at

. As you' and your readers may al
ready be aware, December 18, 1991,
will be mark the 126th anniversary
of the ratification of the 13th Amend
ment to the United States Constitu
tion. This amendment officially
ended slavery in this country. It al 0
allowed our African-American an
cestors to begin the journey toward
full American citizenship. Many
miles have been covered on this road
toward freedom, but even in 1991,
there is still a long way to go.
On December 18, a group of stu
dents from my school will sponsor a
program that will honor the former
slaves. This program will be held in
the House Chamber of North
Carolina's old capitol building in
. Raliegh, where actual debates on
slavery were waged in the 1860's.
Our program will also pay tribute
to the contributions of the Black
Press In America, from the abolition
period to the present time.

THIS TRIBUTE will include a
portfolio of letters and editorials
about the importance of the Black
Press in the past, present, and the
future. This portfolio will be
presented to the State Archivist and
will be permanently housed at the
North Carolina Museum of History.
Please help my cl by publish-
ing this letter, by writing an editorial,
and by encouraging your readers to
write letters that we can include in
this portfolio. It would be wonderful
if we received at least a dozen letters
from Michigan by December 13.

What Prosecutor Tony Tague i
telling us is that Robert Collins Sr.
opened fire on one man who had a
gun but not on the other who wu
picking up the gun?
I believe it would have been civ
ilized for Robert Collins Sr. to send
his son bome to call the police by
simply calling 911, rather him send
ing his son home to.get a .357 mag- .
num to commit a murder. At some
point, wouldn't the shooting have to
have been premeditated? .
Judge Pannucci must be educated
to the term "TERROIST." Who is
the real terroi t? The real terroist
gets probation and Louis Green gets
the death sentence.
Through the te t of time the
Blackman faced many uncon
trollable forces of wrongdoing and
unrightousne .
The European at the dawn of the
1800's failed to understand or realize
that the Blackman is a human being,
and not a subjc:ct or abuse, pain or
heartache.
At the turn of the next century, the
Black race has yet to gain respect
from the white race.
In the late 1900's the Blackman
then had powerful leaders uch as
Martin Luther King and Malcom
"X," the Black people then had
strength to face our agonizer head
without fear nor shame, fighting for
the rights of our people .
The great leaders give their souls,
blood and lives, just if only to gain
. rights for one human being.
It's 1991, in one word,
"CRACK' I! Out of many enemies
and hard times the Blackman can
indeed fall by our own stupidity.
It's time to think!

TODAY, TONY TAGUE'S
ruling of "justifiable homicide" stilt
tands because Green was likely
armed and threatening 19 restaurant
patrons. Was tbe investigation soley
based on the 19 restaurant patrons or
the community leader that Tony
Tague claimed to have met with?
Today I'm still concerned and
will continue to be concerned until I
get some clarity why Tony Tague
failed to appear at the County Com
mission meeting on July 2, 1991 at
the request of the County Commis-
ion and the concerned citizens of
Muskegon County.
I have hope that Louis Green's
friend that was with him that night
will read this and decide to come
forward and answer some questions
concerning the Shooting. Maybe. it
will help everyone to understand the
hooting a little better.
The murder of Loui Green
should be remembered as a
holocaust of the American justice
system. Every citizen of Muskegon
County should not rest until we get
complete and equal justice for all
citizens of Muskegon County.

Everyday I still stop and think
about the Louis Green shooting.
And many questions still come to
mind. Where is the weapon? Where
is the man who supposedly
"scooped" up the weapon? In my
opinion it doesn't seem rational for
one of Louis Green's friends to have
picked up the weapon' after seeing
his friend shot in the head with a
powerful .357 magnum.
It eems to me that we would po -
sibly have two victims of violent
crime instead of one.
