nual "Lou Rawl P rade of Stars" telethon
on S turd y, Dec. 28, entertainer Lou
Rawl and ome of the bigg t name in
how b ine will get an early tart on
New Year' celebrations by singing, danc­
ing and, mo t importantly, making public
appe I for financial upport to benefit the
United Negro College Fund (UNCF).
Sta . including Bill Co by, Melba
Moore, Reba McEntire, Kool Moe Dee and
the Boy' . ctloirofHarlem will blend their
pecial talen on behalf of education at
UNCF chools, institutions that have edu­
cated ome of America' roo t outstanding
citizens.
Preparations for the "Parade of Stars"
is a year-round venture for many UNCF
volunteers and upporters, including Lou
Rawls, who i th driving force behind the
ucce ful television special.
Each year Rawls extends personal in­
vitations to celebrity friend to join his
national call to support Black higher
education. As in years' pa 1, the Chicago
native has once again managed to assemble
some of the entertainment world's hottest
stars for the 1991 "parade."
Through Rawls' 12-yearofpersonal in­
volvement with the telethon, which gal­
vanizes support for UNCF's 41 colleges
and universitie , over $88 million h been
pledged to UNCF, enabling qualified and
needy younsters to study at th nation's
privat, historically Black colleges and
universitie .

names in show business for the "Parade of
stars" has made the telethon one of the mo t
exciting holiday specials on television.
Viewer loyalty to the program, Rawls ex­
plains, i twofold: "Excellent entertain­
ment and, of course, an excellent. cause -
the United Negro College Fund."
