During the DDA portion of the meeting the board approved to table a recommendation from the City of Benton Harbor to purcha e Christma decorations from Display Sale , a company located in Eden Prairie, Minne ota, until next year, . but approved to donate $500 to Ben­ ton Harbor Now, a non-profit or­ ganization, for Christmas tree lights. . Brooks said the project commit­ tee felt that project would not be valid becau e, (1) the con ern with the p rformance of the ci ty in th past, pertaining to the present Christma decoration, which i only six years old, (2) the information wa brought to the board at a late date, and (3) the propo als had not been bidded out, but only olicited to one contractor. Kelvin Clements, Chairman of the Project Committee said the main objection he would h ve i the way the decorations are now being stored, not being taken care of. If the city purcha ed the decorations they wouldn't have any place to store them. At the present time, the old decorations are stored in the Liberty Theater. DDA Board members William Nichols, who i also on the board of. Benton Harbor Now, said Benton Harbor busine man Ro Hadley is donating a tree which will be placed on a vacant lot on the corner of Main and Pipe tone Strcc in downtown Benton Harbor. Brooks told the board members that Yarbrough told him-that mo t of the Chri tmas decorations that the city had were damaged beyond repair and presently there is only abo t 44 parts of Christmas decora­ tions left. BROOKS ID in 1985 the city purchased about $10,000 worth of Christmas decorations and the DDA board in the past has spent almost $1,500 in the past three years for various parts to help repair old decorations.
