SUPPORT OUR ADVERTISERS Davis' Go RGARET MANSFIELD EponGo.p!/ It w nearly a year ago that Ben son Records celebrated their signing . of actor Clifton Davis and his gospel debut album, entitled "Say Amen," wi a star- tudded listening party and reception in Beverly Hills. Davi had hoped to trade in on his TV fame as Rev. Rueben Gregory on NBC' popular" Amen" series. But it hasn't happened that way. Davis is disap-pointed, not with tJte record or it's material but instead for the . promotion on the part of the record company. So di appointed in fact was Davi , that there's a possibility tbat he will look for another company to record with. He is quick to add that he was quite pleased with the response from gospel audiences as well as his own loyal fans. "It was tremendous," Davis says. "In fact, it is continuing to get a lot of aftplay, once they sent the album to the sta tions. It was amazing." However, for now Davis ts put ting his gospel career oh hold. This i a time of adjustments for the actor singer. After a long and successful run on NBC as a popular and top rated sitcom, "An" was cancelled last year. "I was ready to move on," he says. "It was a great experience and I made a l.ot of great friends (namely co-star Anna Horsford), but it was time to move on. Clifton is' now enjoying the series run in what he terms ·"rerun" heaven.
