WORD MAKERS Edited by NATHANIEL SCOTT Homecoming for works of G.lan on Dowdell Homecoming, an exhibition featuring the works of Glanton Dow­ dell, a native Detroiter who went into exile in 1968, and still resides in Stockholm . A retrospective view of his life experiences, described by rum as "organic, spontaneous, and chaotic, " is represented in oils and other media. Glanton, who' confesses that two contrapuntal themes run through his life, "confusion" and "embarrass­ ment," has managed to convey per­ serverance .in the .seventeen masterworks shown at Arts Ex­ tended Gallery. Hanging, The Family, The Couple, The Prisoner, Veteran and Alter Ego are pieces which ex­ emplify Glanton's philosophies, ideologies and talent. His fine artistry was encouraged by Leroy Foster, "the most able painter I've ever known." Foster's inspiration lead, the young Glanton to study at Arts & Crafts and the Chicago Arts Institute. He has been able to translate IDs creativity into a new life of teaching, painting and writing. Glanton still has a message to send.
