Cleveland Heir

LaSt week in Los Angeles 35-year old
Andre Cleveland, who states that he became the
late gospel great's common law son by mutual
consent in 1972 says he will take legal action to
get control (for himself and his sister LaShone)
of the estate left by the Rev. James Cleveland.
Cleveland alleges that over e years and
partie rly during his failing health, Mrs.
Annette May Thomas his father'S executive
secretary ascended to adegree of omnipotence
with regards to the late Rev. James Cleveland's
busine s affairs.
On February 8, 1991, th younger Cleveland
say he received a call informing him that hi
father was in a coma and might have less than
24 hours to live. "Meanwhile, during the same
day," he read, "at approximately. 10:27 P.M.,
Mrs. Annette May Thomas, exercising the
durable power of attorney, signed my father's'
name to a trust. Also, minutes later, Mrs.
Thomas signed approximately $6 million
dollars in combined as ets to that same trust,
before hi death. (Lawyers repre enting Andre
Cleveland, y that no will has been filed).
M.e. Hammer throws Gospel curve: Som
M.C. Hammer fans will be surprised with at
least one of the tunes form his latest album, "Too
Legis To Quit, " due later this month.
The ime is a foot-stompin,' soul- tirring
rendition of a gospel classic, "Do Not Pass Me
By," featuring Tramaine Hawkins, and a
35-voice go pel choir. (Hammer, a born-again
Christian, first met Hawkins when he opened for
her on a couple of dates some years ago. k
then, billed as "the Holy Ghost rapper," he . d
Chrisitan raps). Attributing all his good fortune
to God, Hammer has been quoted as aying"the
bottom ine is I know where my blessings come
from and who I'm going to have to stand before
when it's all said and done."
OW CLEVELAND I maintaining that it
i he who should erve as administrator of the
estate, and that he, along with LaShone are the
only rightful heirs,
. LaShone, who i Cleveland's only biological
child, wa not present at the conference but her
ther, Jean Irving, was there on her half,
(though quite clearly not welcomed).
Irving, who moved in with and cared for the
late singer in the months prior to hi death,
contends that LaShone does not regard Andre as
her brother,' and is satisfied not only with the
provision of the trust but with Thomas'
execution of it. What's more, she added that
she, herself, had dressed the late go pel
superstar for a meeting with hi attorney shortly
