She picked herself up after her
fall from pageant graces and
brushed herself offwith "The Right
Stuff'. The success of that debut
album placed Vanessa Williams in
serious contention for the R&B
dance queen throne. At 28, Vanes
sa is more mature, more confident
and in control. It's probably safe
to say she's reached her "Comfort
Zone", which happens to be the
name of her current album.
Venessa's single, "Running Back
To You" has hit the charts and is
steadily on the rise. '
Vanessa struck gold in 1988
with her first album. Singles like
"The Right Stuff', "He's Got The
Look", and "Dreamin", launched
her singing career. She's confi
dent that this album will top the
last, especially since she expected
the first to do a lot better. "The
Comfort Zo" is very diverse,
ranging from ballads and jazz
numbers to pop/funk and R&B
tracks. Although Vanessa's been
hailed as a dance/pop artist, she
feels her strengths lie in deep, soul
ful ballads.
Vanessa shows off her way
wi th ballads on five of the tune off
her latest album. ' "What Will I Tell .
My Heart", is a 1956 Dinah
Washington jazz tune. What's
more, she' currently in "Harley
Davidson and the Marlboro Man"
which tars Mickey Rourke and
Don Johnson. She was also in the
Gene Wilder/Richard Pryor um
mer bomb "Another You". She's
hoping for bigger and better roles.
And while Van a is immedi
ately recognizable on the creen,
she's been confused with another
actress who's got the same name.
The other actress, was the hard
'hearted hit woman in "N4W Jack
City". She's been regi tered with
the Screen Actors Guild since he
w thirteen. When the singing
Vanessa came along, he joined
the· Guild as Vanessa L Williams
in order to distinguish the two.

recording studio once more, signing with
A&M and rele ing The Right Night which
yielding the R&B hit "Sho' YOIl Right" and
ignalled Barry' re-emegence as it hitmaker.
His econd rele for the label, 1989' The
Man Is B further cern nted Barry' chart
hold with the R&B top 10 hit "Wanna Do It
Good To Ya" and it didn't hurt that Barry'
inimitable vocal style was literally all over
Qunicy Jones' Grammy-winning "The Secra
Garden (The Seduction Suite)" from the mul ti
million selling Back On The Bloc album.
Aside from hi beavy touring schedule in
1990, Barry found time to get with rap star Big
Daddy Kane to record "AU Of Me Wants All Of
You" for Kane's third hit album. Bury' tatus

music was further revealed from Britian Lisa

acknowledged the influence that Barry White
