In a letter to the YMCA Board Chairperson Milton Harrison, the president of the Men's Forum, Harry Walker, requested that the board of direct rename the YMCA in Highland Park for the city that gave it birth. Unlike suburban YMCA's which are named after their host citie , inner city Y's are named for streets, directions, founding fathers, everything but the city in which they are Jocaied, Walker said. . There are two Y' in Detroit ' for example, he noted. One is called the "With, ertal Y" and the other, the "Harper Y." Hi,ghland Park YMCA is named the Northside YMCA ' But go to Livonia, Redofr, Farmington Hills, Garden City and Dearborn and, all have the local YMCA named for that city. . Why? Walker $id the Men's Forum wants to know. . It is rumored that, members of tbe boarc:\ wonder why .Highland Parkers don'] use the Y facility. . The Men's. Forum maintain that there is pride' in ownership, "give it our name and we will embrace. it," Walker said.
