"Meet the Candidate Forums" for in
dividuals seeking commi loner at
large seats for the City of Benton
Harbor. The forum was held at the
Benton Harbor Public Library, July
31. Michael Green, President of
NISE served Moderator.
There are 12 candidates seeking
four seats, two 2 years at-large and
two 4 years at-large eat . •
Seeking the 2 years at-large po i
tions are, In umbent Kerry Shan
non and Ralph Cren haw;
challengers Ezra Rodgers Jr., An
toine Echols, Brian Melchor and
James F.A. Turner.
Seeking four years at-large eats
include, Incumbent Charles
Yarbrough and Fred Sim . Chal
lengers are, Joan Brown, Jame Dod
ley, Ricky Hill and Wrennie Bennett.
Out of the 12 candidates 10 were
present. Each candidate had three (3)
minute to give their opening tate
ment of why they were seeking a
Benton Harbor Commi ion eat.

"I al 0 would like to be able to con
tribute to the progre and the growth
of this city, and I think in the past
four years, I have had a significant
impact in the management and a lot
of busine have been taken care of
and I want to see that it continue to
happen."
Incumbent Iph Cren haw-
"I have a dream that one day that we
can provide opportunities for the
young people that is coming out of
chool, 'ike jo in the nt n r- •
bor Area."
Jame F.A. Turner- "My com
mitment is to help the City of Benton
Harbor to grow. The key thing we are
dealing with now is lack of job in
the City."
Incumbent Chari Yarbrough
- "I have been a commissioner
since 1971. "I have been criticized
for the last 20 years, and probably
will continue to be criticized but I'm
going to keep that same atti tude, job
and tax base comes first."
Antoine Echols - "What we
need to do is get rid of these
politicians who are self-serving and
get some people that will help the
youth and elderly."
Brian Melchor - '!One of my
main goals is to see that our people
are informed to everything that i out
there for our people."
Joan Brown - "My purpose for
runni ng is the fight for young people.
I'm seeking more involvement and
to learn, that I might be more suffi
cient in helping solve some of the
problems of the City."
Ricky 8111- "My concern is to
a voice for the people. Here in Ben
ton Harbor we always have people
coming in putting the young against
the old, not understanding that both
of them are the same. "
Wrennle Bennett - "I am run
ning because I believe in the. truth
the truth will set you free. If you
know that your brother or sister is not
right, you can't be afraid to tell them
that it is wrong. And if they don't
stop it, then don't be afraid to pull the
