Program helps seniors with pharmacy bills Seniors in Berrien, Cass and Van Buren counties having difficulty paying for their prescription drugs may find relief through the Michigan Emergency Pharmaceutical Program for Seniors or MEPPS. Persons 65 years of age or older may be eligible to receive vouchers which can be used at their local phar­ macy to receive month's supply of all their prescription drug needs. In order to receive vouchers, a person must be 65 years or older; have a monthly income less than $827 if single, $1,108 if married' and spend at least 10% of their household monthly income for prescription drugs. MEPPS is administered by the Office of Services to the aging through the local Area Agency on Aging cooperation with local intake sites. Hull, a candidate seek­ ing office for Mayor of the City of Benton Harbor held a pre con­ ference Tuesday, July 2, announcing her intentions. Mrs. Hull i the first woman to the mayoral seat in the ry, of Benton Harbor. Hull told her audience that it was time for everyone to come together and make Benton Harbor a better city. She told the people that if they h ven't registered to ote, it w� time to do so. "We are going to make this the largest voters registration ever," Hull said. "We are making history. We are going to have to get involved, get excited, get enthusiastic, get fired up and tay encouraged about things that are happening that you are going to be a part of in the City of Benton Harbor." Hull stated that she is strongly against the City's Police and Fire Departments combining because, "Policemen are not firemen and firemen are not Policemen," he said. "Firemen cannot handle police work. They are not qualified mentally even though they may get the training," she said. BUlL SAID THAT if the city merged the two departments, there is a possibility that the city will ex­ perience a high crime rate, because 'when a fireman is out being a . policeman and they have a big fire run, then they are being taken off their police duti Hull said sh d checked with some of the citi that have merged their fire and poli departments and, they were not pleased with the merger. Mrs. Hull is a recipient f numerous communi ty awards.
